Lombardy Poplars

Populus nigra ‘Italica’

Poplars planted over 100 years ago are found at the corner of the Police Paddocks and feature in many of the old town photos. The largest poplar is located on The Island, beside the Goulburn River, believed to have been planted by Dr Nash in 1860’s.

The 7 poplars in the middle of The Island were planted in 1991 by local resident, Fred Mertzlin, to replace the famous “seven sisters” near Foots’ Bridge.
