Giant Sequoia
Sierra Redwood (Sequoiadendrum giganteum)

Planted in the 1860’s as part of Von Mueller* planting, having been ordered by the then Magistrate of Jamieson. There were originally 4 trees but 2 diseased specimens were cut down in 2011. The largest, behind the Police residence, was registered with the National Trust in 2000 (tree removed in 2016).
Two local residents, Julie Guppy & Wendy Blackledge, climbed to the top of this tree in 1963, when both were 12 years old.
*Baron von Mueller was Government Botanist in late 1800s and director of Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne.
